Organisations need to fundamentally rethink leadership to enable gender equality

With continued focus on the need to increase gender equality among senior positions in organisations, it is essential that organisations such as everywoman exist. everywoman was founded in 1999 as a membership organisation which has as its members some of the world’s most famous brands. The organisation’s aim is to champion the advancement of women through creating opportunities such as development, events and peer networking.

everywoman e-magazine this month includes an article by Real World Group Founding Director, Professor Beverly Alimo-Metcalfe, in which she describes the importance of leaders and organisations re-examining their notions of what effective leadership is. “Heroic”, more macho styles of leadership still pervade, yet research shows increasingly that adopting an “engaging” style (the antithesis of heroic) is critical for ensuring success in today’s business world.
