Real World Group® Transformational Leadership
Questionnaire (TLQ) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

–       What is the TLQ, and how can it benefit me in my role?

A diagnostic 360-feedback process to support leadership development, enabling you and your team to cope better with change, enhance wellbeing, and increase productivity.

–       How long do I need to have been in my current role for it to be most beneficial?

We advise that you have been in your current role for a minimum of 6 months before starting the 360 process. This is the best way to get useful and valid feedback as it means that your colleagues will have had chance to get to know how you lead and typically behave.

–       How do I start the TLQ process?

You will receive a log in invitation with details to access the 360 platform. You can then check your details and start uploading contact details for your reviewers. You will them be invited to complete a self-assessment.

–       What are the reviewer categories?

You (Self), your line manager, peers, direct reports, internal others, and external others. The latter two categories are defined by you depending on what would be of most use. For example, depending on whether your role has many links outside the organisation or not.

–       What if I do not have any direct reports?

We offer a non-line manager version of our TLQ which follows the same process as the regular TLQ. The main difference is that there is no Direct Reports category.

–       How should I brief my reviewers?

It is very important that you take time to explain to your reviewers why you are asking them to complete the TLQ how important their feedback is to you. If reviewers aren’t briefed, they may not even open the invitation email that they receive. They also need to understand how their feedback will be protected as confidential and that your

report will only be seen by you. For more details on how to brief your reviewers, you can watch this video

–       What is classed as a stakeholder?

Stakeholder and external other can be viewed as the same or similar and it is up to you if you decide to use both categories or just choose one of them. It might be that you already group your stakeholders/partners. You can add them as you seem fit, and it is your decision on how you define them based on your own context.

–       How will I know when my reviewers have completed?

It is essential that you log in to your account every 2-3 days to check the progress of your reviewers in giving you feedback. No one else will be doing this, and therefore you need to stay on top of it. When you log in, your account will show you the status of your TLQ in terms of completion rate and you can send reminders to outstanding reviewers or add/edit reviewers.

–       Are all responses anonymous?

Apart from your manager, all other responses from reviewers will be anonymous. This means that their ratings of you will not show in your report unless at least one other person has completed the feedback from the same category as them (e.g. Peers). It is important to brief your reviewers to let them know that their responses will be anonymous but to note that qualitative responses will be shared verbatim so to be cautious of not being identifiable. A note about this is included in the questionnaire itself that they will see.

–       How long do assessments take to complete?

Assessments should be completed on a laptop/computer for the scales to present correctly and therefore for the process to be as efficient as possible. We recommend setting 20 minutes aside to complete the assessment. For external others reviewers the questionnaire is much shorter and should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

–       Can I take the assessment on my mobile phone?

We would advise completing assessments on a laptop or large tablet to ensure that the scales are presented correctly and can be read easily. However, they can be completed on a mobile phone if necessary.

–       Can I start the assessment and revisit it later?

Yes, you can. At any stage of completion, if you or your reviewers need to step away to another task that is fine. You will find when you go back to your assessment it will start where you left off. The system records every 10 completed answers, so the maximum number of questions you would need to respond to again would be 9.

Please note that if you leave part way through writing a comment, or your internet connection drops at this point, what you have written so far will not be saved.

–       The deadline has passed, am I still able to take part?

If the deadline has passed and your link is still working that is fine. If it has closed, it is unlikely you will be able to still complete the feedback. However, if you contact us on 360@realworld-group.com we can clarify this for you.

–       Can I take the assessment in languages other than English?

Flags at the top right hand of the screen show which other languages are available for you to complete the TLQ.

–       When and how will I receive my feedback?

When you have received the minimum number of reviewers in each category a report can be produced. You will have a 90-minute feedback session with a qualified coach to help you understand your report and action planning. You will typically receive a notification a couple of days before your session that your report has been unlocked and you can download it. You must do this as your coach will not necessarily have a copy. They are asked not to review your report in advance to help them stay objective in your feedback session.
